FACT#1:
Newfoundland, the island, is
affectionately known as 'the rock'. Myth has it that if
all the topsoil were spread evenly over its 43,000
square miles it would be approximately 6 inches deep.
Yet in this poor soil, combined with a short
growing season, we have an abundance of trees, flowers,
plants, moss-lichens that would entrance the novice or
expert.
FACT#2:
Our geology is interesting and historical containing the
oldest exposed rock in the world. One of the few places,
if not the only, where you can actually walk on the
Earth's mantle.
